day 1. 365 days of zero shopping

Disclaimer / “Rules” - I am giving up shopping for myself or the home (cosmetically) for 365 days. Annabelle is off limits because? Growing child, lé duh.

Day 1: shit. social media. I’ve already seen 13 (x 4) things I ‘want’ - do I need any of it? No. Do I probably have something that is similar or could ‘fill in’ for ‘it’? Sure.

There are some things I spent time doing yesterday in preparation for my fast (if you will):

  1. Over the last few days I have been unsubscribing to emails - whether it be actual sales emails or newsletters promoting clothing, shoes, etc, it’s all so encompassing and distracting! Also? I did it. I unfollowed a lot of tempting brands. #unfollowing, y’all. It’s OK TO DO IT. I’ll pick up in 2021, but all those businesses that don’t offer me any inspo, yet just want me to buy all. of. the. things. I’m sorry, but I have to quit you (for now).

  2. Today! I pulled out my trusty rolling rack. Let me tell YOU! I know my way around a rolling rack! And it can be a great, simple, easy place to lay it ALL out and see what you’re workin’ with! I won’t link cute ones because I CAN’T LOOK AT WEBSITES RIGHT NOW. I AM VULNERABLE.

  3. I would say the majority of Sunday’s I plan the weeks upcoming meals. My new goal is to plan meals in conjunction with a week of looks / outfit prep. I’m working with 3 closets, it shouldn’t be too hard - 🙄

  4. Events. It’s what I purchase ( or did in the past! ) the ‘big ticket’ items. Weddings, showers, freakin’ BBQ’s - I felt like I needed something ‘new’ for each event. Heck, one of said closets is basically all the dresses I have worn for weddings. Holy moly. My point is, a lot of the event for someone who loves fashion is deciding what to wear!! Let’s be real, that’s the most important part! #amiright? So! To get excited about some upcoming events, I want to plan my ‘looks’ for the events to get me prepared and know I have what it takes to get the job done.

  5. Labeling - I did this when I was styling and I’ve done this personally in the past. They make amazing over the hanger tags and you can write in what event or day you plan on wearing it - all about that organization!

  6. A really great idea that @alexisdelchiaro had was to write down the things I’ve seen that I wanted over the next twelve months and at the end calculate what the cost is and what I saved. BUT I can’t. If I take the time to write down what I want, then I will harp on it and that won’t be good.

Some of you think I’m nuts.

Some of you are proud.

And some of you just don’t get it or know what to say.

I’m doing this to get to a better me. To understand why I shop. Or why I feel like I need a fast fix. Part of me is doing it just to prove my husband wrong. #truth

But I am 100 percent certain I will come out of this with something positive, whether that be a better appreciation for what I purchase OR a big fat pressie at the end to reward myself. We shall see. All I know is, day one was a success! 364 days to go!
