marshmallow cheerio treats
I needed a little somethin’ somethin’ for a friend’s birthday and as always, I keep a good amount of items on hand to whip up a cute, fun, festive treat.
Cheerios, check. Marshmallows, check. Sprinkles? DUH. Which color shall I choose today?!
The end result looks like a blend of an animal cracker and a cereal treat and I am INTO IT. V on brand.
Ingredients:
5 cups of cheerios
1 bag of large marshmallows (most recipes call for small but I like an extra dose of marshmallow - I think it makes for a richer treat!)
2 tablespoons of butter (I go easy on the butter because I am not a fan and I don’t like greasy treats)
Directions:
Line a 8 x 8 pan with parchment paper and LIGHTLY spray with coconut oil spray
Melt butter and marshmallows together in the microwave (watch CLOSELY!) or on the stovetop over low heat
Add in cheerios and fold lightly to not crush the cereal best you can
Quickly turn over treats into pan and press with a lightly oiled spatula to create an even surface, sprinkle with lots o sprinkles!
Pop in the fridge to set, or just allow to cool completely before cutting
Pull out parchment paper layer and cut into squares and E A T !
I had a small amount of frosting I had frozen for emergencies (like a Monday baking sesh) and I used some non toxic pink dye to create a fun neon POP of color, and drizzled on top - voilá, animal cracker vibes!
